The country’s largest food company is offering discount coupons on Google and other news services for food, beverages and other items, said an official statement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday unveiled the latest in his ambitious Make in India initiative, and on Wednesday, the government is offering a variety of food and packaged goods discounts, including on Google.
Google announced a partnership with the India Food and Packaging Corporation (IFP) for the discount.
It will offer discounts on some popular items like snacks, cereals, milk and cooking oils, it said in a statement on Thursday.
The prime minister has launched the initiative to improve access to affordable food in rural India, which is the country’s second largest food-consuming nation after China.
In March, the prime minister launched a pilot scheme to encourage the purchase of food in villages, in the hope of raising awareness of food security.
